Realistic painting 1 & 2

Oils painting for beginners and Intermediates

On Wednesdays evening from 6:00 – 9:00 pm
2014 Fall session: September 24 to November 26

2015 session I: January 21 to April 1 (no class on March 18)

2015 session II: April 8 to June 10

Fee:  10 sessions- $295 + 13% taxes Payment is refundable up to one week prior to commencement of classes.

Course Description for Beginners:
These classes focus on Realism painting using methods of the Old masters and the Classical Painting Atelier.
You will learn how to create a realistic and luminous painting using underpainting, layering, and glazing techniques.
Demonstrations on preparing a canvas/panel,laying out the composition, and creating a value-oriented underpainting will be given.
In addition, you will learn valuable knowledge on mixing colours and dealing with light and shadow.
Come and will learn important skills that can be applied to a variety of styles.

Class Outcomes: By the end of this course, students will:
-Understand the materials of used in Classical painting
-Know how to create and transfer a drawing for painting
-Create an underpainting
-Complete a realistic still life with a limited warm and cool palette.
-Complete a realistic still life in full colour.

Course Description for Intermediates:

Held in conjunction with ‘Realist Painting-Still life’, this class will give you the opportunity to refine the skills and techniques learned thus far. You will have the opportunity to paint his or her own painting from a still life set-up or photo with individual critiques from the teacher. Some of the topics covered will be composition, trompe l’oeil,  using colour strings, various underpainting techniques (ébauche), edge control, and more advanced glazing/scumbling techniques.

Bio: Roberto Rosenman was born in Venezuela and moved to Canada at an early age
where he studied drawing and painting at The Ontario College of Art and Design and York University.
He switches between still life and portraiture,always incorporating strong symbolism and narrative in his work.
Roberto teaches drawing at George Brown College and exhibits regularly around Toronto.
