Drawing from Nature and the Figure

Workshop starting date TBA
Sunday  from 11 am to 5 pm (there will be a model during 11:30 am to 1:30 pm)

Course Objectives:
To address students’ skill levels and aspirations.
To develop an understanding of a basic visual vocabulary.
To explore traditional and non-traditional drawing materials.
To develop observational drawing techniques.
To consider conceptual strategies of contemporary drawing.

Class Structure:
An intense, three-hour-per-week class with a focus on perception — to develop what you see, and to better understand the process of translating that vision with understanding to a flat surface — examines drawing as an interpretive and expressive tool. Sessions include demonstrations, drawing books presentation, drawing assignments from objects, environments, the figure, and imagined and found sources. Terminologies such as mass, weight, gesture, structure, line, contour, cross contour, volume, picture plane, are all explained and examined in the context of the classes.

Learning Outcomes:
Students should develop the following: a critical awareness of their drawing in the context of contemporary practices.
A willingness to explore a diverse range of materials and content.
Competencies in visualization, representation and abstraction; and a visual vocabulary that applies to all studio experiences.

Cost: $100 + $20 (model fee)
